A life in colour, nature and painting
I live and paint in the stunning tidal village of Bear River, Nova Scotia. My studio, a converted garage surrounded by nature, is where I answer the deep call to create. The gardens, fields, changing light and peaceful rural landscape that surround me are a constant source of inspiration.

The relationship between colour, texture and the natural world is at the heart of my work. I paint primarily in acrylics, oils and watercolours, exploring the infinite patterns, rhythms and symbols I find in nature. My garden, where I grow a vast array of plants and flowers, has become my own little paradise—and a generous source of subjects for my paintings.
A creative beginning
I grew up in downtown Toronto, surrounded by creativity. My father was a Linotype operator, and I loved the smell of printers’ ink and the craft of type. My mother was a painter, writer and gardener who made art materials, books and inquisitiveness a natural part of everyday life. Their influence continues to run through everything I do.
In the late 1960s, I studied fine arts and crafts at the Art Centre at Central Technical School in Toronto, where I developed a love for painting, printmaking and weaving.

In the early 1970s, I travelled to Berlin to study painting and drawing at the Kunsthochschule Weissensee under Professor Wolfram Schubert. Those years were formative, opening my eyes to new ways of seeing and deepening my compassion for people finding their way in unfamiliar places.
Finding my way back to painting

Life took me through many chapters. I raised two creative children, worked in libraries, and completed university courses towards an Arts degree. There were busy years of family, full-time work and study, but painting remained a constant companion—a quiet, persistent thread woven through everything else.
During the 1990s, I painted exclusively in watercolour. In the following years, I gradually moved towards fluid acrylics, and since coming to Nova Scotia I have also explored oils, oil sticks and monoprinting. I enjoy experimenting with different materials and approaches, allowing each new painting to teach me something.
In 2007, with our children grown, Larry and I left Toronto to pursue a long-held dream: to devote ourselves full-time to our art. We settled in Bear River, a vibrant community of artists, and found a landscape and way of life that spoke directly to my brush.
The landscape as muse
My artistic influences range from the Canadian Group of Seven’s approach to landscape, to the expressive colour of German Expressionism and the playful textures of contemporary Californian colourists. But nature itself remains my greatest teacher.
Gardening and painting have become deeply connected in my life. Both ask for patience, attention and an openness to change. Living in rural Nova Scotia has given me the space to cultivate a rich inner and outer life, steeped in beauty. Here, my art and the natural world are inseparably linked—and this is where my muse truly found its home.
